00:00:00:19 Hi! I am Jim Dupree.
00:00:01:24 The other day I walked in front of a television repair shop
00:00:04:10 and this program, this very program came on the
00:00:07:15 television screens and everyone stopped and looked and said,
00:00:10:08 oh my God it's a fire. They called 911.
00:00:12:28 I said, no it's okay, it's just a television show.
00:00:15:05 They said, no there is a fire.
00:00:16:05 I said, it's just special effects.
00:00:17:16 They said, no, no, no, I said, no, settle down, settle down.
00:00:22:04 But there was a fire inside and everyone burned to death.
00:00:25:05 Regardless this is HoTTT TopiXXX.
00:00:30:07 [Music]
00:00:45:01 Yes, this is HoTTT TopiXXX, I am Jim Dupree
00:00:49:02 and joining me to debate the topics of the day,
00:00:53:01 I have three of the sharpest knives in your back,
00:00:56:18 starting off on the panel we have Rob Scott.
00:00:59:28 Bite TVs own Rob Scott South-African.
00:01:02:03 Welcome to the program.
00:01:03:13 Hey diddly Jim.
00:01:04:14 Hey diddly to you. Are you ready to get hot?
00:01:07:28 Jim, I am hot already.
00:01:09:13 Oh! that's creepy.
00:01:11:08 Next up we have Stephanie Domet Futurist, Futurist.
00:01:15:13 So that's sort of like amnesia, but in reverse is that right?
00:01:18:13 Yes.
00:01:20:13 I have got a question for the future you,
00:01:23:15 are you ready to get hot?
00:01:25:16 I was born ready Jim.
00:01:26:25 Also creepy and rounding out the panel
00:01:29:08 we have Zal Winerib homemaker.
00:01:32:08 So you are in the construction business.
00:01:34:06 Well, I am a homemaker in the traditional sense.
00:01:38:05 Masonry, mostly that.
00:01:41:06 If that's what your idea of traditional is, yes.
00:01:44:13 Are you ready to get hot?
00:01:46:06 Generally I am bothered, tonight I am ready to be hot.
00:01:49:07 Oh, I am very glad to hear that.
00:01:50:26 Well, let's start our first topic.
00:01:53:02 Violent video games with titles like Grand Theft Auto, Tetris,
00:01:58:10 Kill Everyone Right Now With a Gun.
00:02:00:28 Are we raising a generation of sociopaths, of murderers,
00:02:04:18 how do we protect our children from sort of these
00:02:08:24 influences of guns, violence, drug culture.
00:02:11:28 Zal, I will start with you, I know you have
00:02:14:12 a few young ones at home.
00:02:15:19 Are you worried about what video games might be doing
00:02:18:18 to their young impressionable minds?
00:02:20:14 Well, the biggest concern is the fact that I do have young ones
00:02:23:03 at home but they are not actually mine because as a
00:02:28:08 traditional homemaker, I am still working on those
00:02:31:13 aspects of my life, like a wife and children.
00:02:36:01 But if there were children there of my own, I would hope that
00:02:39:18 there would be no violence in the house whether that would be
00:02:43:10 from the TV, the double radio or of course
00:02:48:02 from the back of my hand.
00:02:50:01 Stephanie.
00:02:52:10 Video game player, you play a lot of the Sega Genesis?
00:02:56:03 Just a little with the -- it's called Snood
00:02:58:18 with the jewels in the shooting and the yeah --
00:03:01:16 Violence, do you dig the violent games?
00:03:04:11 No, but I don't really have a problem with that,
00:03:07:13 I mean just let them get it out of their system there,
00:03:09:28 who is it hurting really?
00:03:11:24 So you would advocate for more, maybe more violence.
00:03:14:18 I'll bring it on.
00:03:15:24 More violence, alright.
00:03:16:24 Rob, we go to you.
00:03:18:15 Jim, I am going to stand on the other side of the Cleveland
00:03:20:28 steamer and just tell you that, I don't think there is enough
00:03:23:28 violence in video games.
00:03:25:08 You want to right shoot it up.
00:03:26:25 Woody Allen recently attacked by zombies, think about that.
00:03:30:20 If he was a little more violent, have you ever seen a violent
00:03:33:06 Woody Allen movie, first of all. Never.
00:03:35:08 If he was attacked by zombies and maybe he would have offended
00:03:37:15 them off better, and it's just essentially, we are not prepared
00:03:40:29 for a mass invasion of any kind, why, because our children
00:03:43:23 are pampered, we are no longer -- if Spartan came back,
00:03:47:21 we would be screwed.
00:03:49:01 So you are suggesting that perhaps we should include
00:03:52:02 let's say there is a game where you have to shoot something that
00:03:55:25 along with the video game that we could perhaps include in the
00:04:00:06 box a gun, a real functioning glock of 45,
00:04:06:04 a bazooka of some kind. Did you actually shoot?
00:04:10:06 Would you allow your children?
00:04:12:14 That's practical, it's good to have something, if you are going
00:04:16:15 to buy a product let's say a video game that I understand
00:04:20:09 is perhaps what $13-$14, you would want to get some
00:04:25:06 extra value like a hand gun, so I am in.
00:04:29:06 Then you are going to have to get one for each of them though,
00:04:31:28 they can't share that.
00:04:33:06 Well, everyday can't be Christmas, but we would want to
00:04:36:05 make sure that all the children are equally --.
00:04:40:04 I don't think everyone gets a gun, I think you bring
00:04:43:21 one video game into the house, you put it in the
00:04:45:18 middle of the room, let's say you have got three choice,
00:04:47:28 say there is one gun in the room, somebody is going to get
00:04:50:13 it and two people are going to be dead.
00:04:53:04 That would encourage the kind of attitude we really lack
00:04:55:21 in the society, also I think Waterboarding, similarly would
00:04:59:10 probably be a very useful game for kids to play.
00:05:02:06 I want to talk a little bit about an argument that I have
00:05:06:10 heard quite a lot which is that kids see something on television
00:05:10:06 they see it in a video game, and they really want to emulate it,
00:05:13:10 they want to sort of play it out in their own lives and I think
00:05:15:23 we had a clip that I want to show you, that kind of proves
00:05:18:24 that this happens with video games.
00:05:20:18 Can we roll that clip?
00:05:22:11 Here, so we have got some actual kids and they are --
00:05:26:19 look at this, they are actually emulating fairly well,
00:05:32:04 a very violent video game.
00:05:34:02 This is that's I believe that's -- what it's called Star Wars.
00:05:40:28 I mean I worry that if my kids were to see that,
00:05:44:21 that they would go out and they would try
00:05:47:09 and maybe on the school yard to --
00:05:49:14 Precede in the orderly fashion.
00:05:50:25 Yeah, no, no, no that they would be lighting up
00:05:53:13 and trying to destroy each other.
00:05:54:28 That was the most frightening thing I have ever seen.
00:05:57:14 Would you want your kids to see that?
00:05:59:08 No, I mean really, I would want them to do something else
00:06:03:11 than line up and interlock with their friends like that.
00:06:07:25 I mean -- It's actually perverse.
00:06:12:14 Sure, that's okay. I am not -- but really video games --
00:06:17:27 So if we do want to protect our kids
00:06:20:05 from these kinds of influences,
00:06:21:23 what kind of mechanism do you think we should put in place,
00:06:24:28 is it a licensing thing, do we maybe have
00:06:27:03 a breathalyser of some sort?
00:06:29:08 You go to the arcade, you have to breathe into it and prove
00:06:31:25 that you are not inebriated.
00:06:35:14 I am just not sure about this notion of having
00:06:37:15 to protect our kids.
00:06:38:28 I mean are they really the ones who need protection,
00:06:42:00 what about protecting ourselves from the kids?
00:06:45:24 That's what I am more concerned about.
00:06:47:05 Are you worried the children might mug you
00:06:48:18 and kill you and stab you?
00:06:49:21 Well, they are the criminals of the future.
00:06:51:06 Right.
00:06:52:07 Oh, absolutely, absolutely.
00:06:54:03 Do you see your kids going to jail any time?
00:06:57:03 I would hope that as a role model for the future children
00:07:02:18 that might come into my life, well maybe find a wife first
00:07:07:28 and then the children that I would hope that jail would
00:07:12:13 not be high on their list of priorities.
00:07:15:07 I think maybe good kitchen skills first and foremost.
00:07:22:13 But as a parent, don't you think that once your
00:07:25:01 children are in jail, you can truly just stop worrying,
00:07:27:10 I mean they are getting fed every night,
00:07:28:20 they have a bed to sleep in.
00:07:29:28 You know where they are.
00:07:31:00 Exactly, it's really relieving all the worries.
00:07:33:19 Alright, I got to stop you there,
00:07:35:21 we have got obviously a divided panel.
00:07:37:21 I am going to see if we can agree coming up after the break
00:07:39:18 where we are talking about alternative fuels.
00:07:42:06 Stick around.
