The Sidekick Report - What a Cute Bear!

Let me paint a picture for you. Two fine looking gentlemen sit at a table in artist’s alley at Fan Expo. On the table are several cute-looking white plush bears. Behind these fine fellows is a banner. On this banner is a cute-looking bear with big eyes and an even bigger smile. The banner is there to promote their book, appropriately titled “The Bear Stories”.
One would expect the pages of such a book to be filled with tales of said bear frolicking through the forest, making friends with children, or attending the teddy bear’s picnic. I had been trying to find a book for my nephew, maybe this was it!

“Excuse me sir, are you easily offended?”

I was only half-listening to the voice coming from behind the table. I was drawn to the book and I decided to pick it up and flip through it. The first thing these eyes saw, was that same cute bear, involved in a very R-rated threesome with two humans.

I should have listened to the voice behind the table. “The Bear Stories” is definitely not for kids!

George Todorovski and Chris Hatzopolous are the creative minds behind “The Bear Stories”. They have just released the second volume of their successful indy title, and by all accounts, it has been selling well. There is something about a cute bear with a big smile being a dick that resonates with people!

The creative process behind “The Bear Stories” is a truly collaborative one. Chris draws the Bear, while George handles the pencils on everything else. Chris and George both contribute to the writing of the book. Their good friend Rene Vriends handles the difficult task of lettering the panels. The book, like the first volume before it, is published in full colour by DMF Comics.

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Yes, the Bear is a dick – but so are a lot of other people he runs into over the course of his day. How he deals with some of those people provides some of the funniest moments in the story. At the end of the story, you even feel a little sorry for the Bear.

So to sum it up: if you want to shock your friends, and you’re looking for a lot of laughs, and you’re NOT easily offended – pick up The Bear Stories Vol. 2.

You’ll have the chance to do so on Wednesday, September 23rd when George and Chris will be making an appearance at Stadium Comics to sign copies of their book between 2pm-6pm. Head to our website for more details. Support Canadian comic creators!

If you ran into the Bear on your local city street, how would you deal with him? Well, in this classic clip from “De Laws of Nature”, Linda has a few tricks up her sleeve that just might work!

Think of the cutest thing bear you can think of. Maybe it looks like Winnie The Pooh, or Timothy from Timothy goes to school? Ok, you have that image? Now picture him in a nice school room with a big red apple on the desk, and some colorful posters adorning the walls. Now picture the sluttiest chicks dressed in school girl outfits come in and the bear nails both of them in the most unspeakable way! Ok, I'm not sure if that actally happens but things LIKE that happens. Read this week's Sidekick Report and be offended...very offended
