Last night I was out with a friend walking through a mall in the midst of telling a story and the girl stopped me in mid-story and said; "Wow, you're a fast talker!"

Now perhaps it was because i was excited about my story and wanted to get it all out there really fast (after all I was telling a story about my favourite pair of shoes!)

... or maybe it was because I was on a date with a pretty girl and my accelerated speech was just a by-product of some lingering nervousness... or maybe it was because that's just me... Yes, I'll admit it, I'm a fast talker!

My whole 'fast talking' nature actually developed during a segment on my old TV show 'Bang!' called 'The Rant' (and yes, I called it 'The Rant' before Rick Mercer did! Gratned he was doing the segment on 22 Minutes before I was... but he stole the name I gave it! So we'll call it even Ricky!).

Funny enough I'm quite convinced that one of the reasons why I’m currently employed here at BITE is because the bossman here saw those segments 4 years ago and must have been somewhat impressed... so when BITE TV was launched... he wanted the 'fast talking rant guy' to become the host of the station.

So much so in fact that our latest BITE Corporate Demo has an emphasis on my fast talking & ranting abilities;


(And for those of you who may have just caught this blog via a google search or without actually knowing what BITE TV is... well this is a nice little overview for you.)

Then again, I tend to be the type of person that picks up catch phrases or characteristics of those around me and of those that I’m watching on TV or movies.

For instance, in my little Scrubs marathon that i went through a few weeks ago I spent that entire time referring to Matt by various girls names... Mainly because of what Dr. Cox does to J.D.... well that and because Matt is so petit and reminds me of a 13 y/o girl at times.

But enough about Matt's effeminite nature; my point was perhaps my fast talking nature comes due to my admiration for other fast talking people that I watch i the media. As any listeners to BITE Radio know I'm a huge fan of Vince Vaughn.

Since his role in Swingers, Vaughn is not only my favourite actor but also my favourite 'fast-talker' of all time. The key with Vaughn is not only is the fast talking... well... FAST, but it's also witty dialogue that you just don't expect to be spit out in that short amount of time, and at times is SO fast that it takes the viewer a couple seconds extra to realize what just came out of this guys mouth!

A close second to Vaughn is Lorelai Gilmore.

And yes, I referred to her character name as opposed to actually saying Lauren Graham because I've seen Graham on talk shows and without a writer and script at her disposal... I don't think she's particularly witty, nor a bona fide 'fast-talker'.

Brining things back home to 'The Great White North', one of my favourite Canadian television personalities that is indeed a bona fide fast talker is George Stroumboulopoulos.

Strombo is proof positive that the best 'on-camera' personas are simply those that are extensions of the actual individual. George is the same guy both on and off camera; very intelligent, very intuitive, a very nice guy, and yes most importantly for this particular blog... a fast talker!

To me, fast talkers are entertaining! They are people that have trained their mouth and their brain to get a clear and concise message across in a very short amount of time... which is actually rather difficult to do without stumbling over your words... trust me, the rants take a WHILE (just ask my cameraguys)! So to anyone that can actually accomplish a fast talking nature and still make sense, well they have my kudos!
