Not since I divulged my love for The Gilmore Girls have I had a guilty pleasure that has run so deep as this latest one that I have found myself enjoying as of late.
It all started while lying in bed one night (heads out of the gutter people), I'm the type of person that sleeps with the radio on and I tend to go through phases as to what I listen to while I dose off.
For years I had slid the dial onto AM640 or AM610 here in Southern Ontario because both of those stations pick up a show called Coast 2 Coast AM. This was the show that was made popular when hosted by Art Bell. It's all about Aliens, Conspiracy Theories, Religious Mysteries and slightly off beat stuff like that.
Art left Coast to Coast a few years ago, and George Noory took over. I don't mind Noory as a host, but Art's got some mighty big shoes to fill... but my deciding factor in flipping the dial wasn't the overnight programming but rather what I was waking up to. Y'see the same station that I fall asleep to is going to have the morning show I wake up to and the last thing I want to hear in the morning is the sound of John Oakley’s voice on 640 Toronto. No thanks!
So that led me to ditch talk radio and spin on over to the spot my car dial never changes from 102.1 The Edge. I listen to The Dean Blundell show on my way to work everyday in the car, so I figured I'd start that up even earlier when I'm getting out of bed. The problem with this was hearing cuts from System of a Down, and Alexis on Fire isn't the most soothing music to fall asleep to.
So that left me flipping up and down the dial trying to find a happy medium... and that was when I came upon a soothing and familiar voice.
A show that seems to be aimed at middle aged housewives, yet for some reason my dial hasn't moved since that night I stumbled upon him.
Tesh's show is syndicated and he's not actually commenting on the music being played but rather providing what he calls "Intelligence For Your Life"... really it's like reading pages from a self-help book without the trouble of doing the actual reading.
And the music tends to lend itself well to relaxing and sleeping as from what I can determine every second song seems to be Michael Buble.
For those of you that listened to BITE RADIO this week, I brought up Tesh to Matt just before our singing segment, and he too listens to the show and also noticed that the cool thing about Tesh is that he's got a sense of humour about himself. Tesh kinda falls into that category of guys like David Hasselhoff and William Shatner... men that do their thing but know it's so incredibly gay at times but are okay with that and are willing to make fun of themselves, which IMHO actually makes them more endearing.
Then again, as I said, it's a GUILTY PLEASURE! I'm gonna go watch some UFC now in order to even myself out and wash away the gay... (UFC... hmmm... two muscular men rolling around in nothing more then underwear... ahh CRAP!)
