THE CANON REPORT: Never Has A Three-Way Been So Heated and Angry!

This here is an odd feud. It started with a lackluster review by Jason Richards in NOW Magazine on the latest K-OS release, "Atlantis – Hymns For Disco". The October 5th review likened him to "a crossover pop artist disguised as a true-school b-boy." Apparently, K-OS was not impressed and his MySpace retort was unpleasant to say the least. He states that Richards is being "manipulated by his indie-rock nerd bosses" and it got ugly when he called him "Sambo" and "Uncle Tom".

I would never have pegged K-OS as the kind of man who would resort to name-calling, let alone borderline racist comments. It's not surprising that said comments are no-where to be found on his site.

Then the odd occurred. Danko Jones wrote a letter to NOW magazine that appeared in the October 19th issue. He wrote that K-OS has "had too much sunshine massaged up his ass." Then he took at shot at Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew calling him "the white middle-class version of G-Unit." What in the fuck Ricky?!

This is when the heavy artillery started firing. First, K-OS retracts his original "Sambo" comment. Instead, he equates Richards to Gary Coleman's Diff'rent Strokes character. Then he returns fire at Danko Jones [http://dankojones.com/] with the comment, "also check out my rock group coming out this summer not sure about the name i think we will call it STANKO JONES... lead single Segers Son. Trust me we will do our best to reach NOBODY AT ALL!" An obvious pot-shot at their lack of success.

So, what does Jones have to say about all this? "I thought K-OS was a wordsmith? Why can’t he come up with a better insult? I was pretty unimpressed and almost disappointed. A five-year-old could come up with something wittier than 'Stanko Jones.'" He did say that K-OS could do whatever he wanted with regards to making a rock record. "If it rocks, I might even buy, er, download it." He continued by saying that if Danko Jones were to make a rap record, it would likely have more rap on it than a K-OS record. "Or at least it wouldn’t have Sam Roberts on it."

Jones clarified to ChartAttack that BSS's Drew "is like a more beardy, disheveled and less bullet-riddled version of 50 Cent." However, he had praise for Brendan Canning. "He's probably the only one in both camps with his head on his shoulders."

After reading about all this inane bickering, one thing came to mind; Are these people children? I’m shocked that K-OS would start all this simply because someone gave him a bad review. I'm confused that Jones would chime in at all, although it’s possible that he couldn't ignore the derogatory comments and felt the need to come to Richards' aide. (Maybe their buddies?)

In the end, it's all a bunch of shite and an awful lot of name-dropping. Sadly, I've lost a little bit of respect for everyone involved except for Richards who apparently remained silent.
